Local Bodies-Limit-Recovery of difference

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department Jayaraj Pathak today informed the Bombay High Court that if the cost of vehicles purchased by officials and office bearers of local bodies was more than the financial limit set out by the State government, the difference would be recovered from the concerned officials.

The Division Bench of Justice S B Mhase and Nishita Mhatre of the Bombay High Court was hearing a petition filed by NGO Common People's Trust seeking the prosecution of acting Commissioner and outgoing Mayor as well of Chairperson of Standing Committee of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, for criminal breach of trust after three Corolla cars valuing more than Rs 11 lakh, were purchased for them in 2005.

The petition pointed to the Government Resolution of October 2003, setting aside a maximum financial limit of Rs four lakh only for such officers and office bearers.

The court insisted on some action against them and directed the State government to inform it about the action proposed against such erring officials and office bearers of local bodies.

The matter will come up for hearing on March 22.
