J'khand govt to spend Rs 600 cr over infrastructure: HRD Min

Ranchi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Jharkhand government would spend Rs 600 crores to strengthen infrastructure of the educational institutions in the state by 2009-2010.

Replying to a short hour question, raised by suspended BJP MLA Pradeep Yadav, State Human Resources Development Minister Bandhu Tirkey said the matter was sent to the 12th Finance Commission after being approved by a high-powered committee.

In another question of suspended BJP MLA Vishnu Bhaiya, Mr Tirkey said Jharkhand Public Service Commission had been requested for the appointment of 8383 teachers in state.

Mr Tikey said efforts have been taken for infrastructure of the newly upgraded schools into higher secondary level.

Earlier, intervening into the starred question of Chatruram Mahto(BJP), Chief Minister Madhu Koda said absorption of informal education observers would be done this month.

Mr Koda said the matter of informal education was delayed for last six months and assured that his government would look into the matter.

State Human Resource Development Minister Bandhu Tirkey said the teachers for informal education were earlier selected as instructors for a certain period for conducting informal education centres on honorarium.

The HRD minister said the instructors were never appointed as government employees adding there was no proposal with the state government to regularise them on government roll.

The house also passed the proposal for special debates on power, price hike and sarva shiksha abhiyan on March 14, 15 and 16 respectively with voice vote.

Iraqi children undergo treatment in AIMS

Kochi, Mar 14 (UNI) Five children from Iraq succesfully underwent cardiac surgeries at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) here. According to an official release here today, four of them, who had completely recovered, would return to their homeland in a week's time. The other child was still recuperating at the hospital. High alert in Bihar districts

Jehanabad, Mar 13 (UNI) A high alert has been sounded in Jehanabad and Arwal districts of Bihar following the bandh call by the proscribed CPI (Maoist) in Magadh region on March 15. The bandh was called to protest the death of an activist of the organisation in police custody in Gaya. Coastal villagers suffer from major diseases due to pollution

Ahmedabad, Mar 15 (UNI) People living on 1,600 km long Gujarat Coastline spread over 450 villages are prone to kidney stone, arthritis, stomach ache, respiratory and gynaecological diseases.
