IMD to install 53 short-range Doppler Weather Radars

Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 13 (UNI) The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) is planning to install 53 short-range Doppler Weather Radars in all important meteorology centres in the country in the next two years in a phased manner, a top official today said.

Talking to UNI here, IMD Director Y K Reddy said the Doppler Weather Radars were capable of round-the-clock weather obeservation and aviation-related operations within a 250 km range.

Some of the radars would be indigenously designed jointly by ISRO and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and an MoU was recently signed in this regard.

The IMD is also contemplating setting up of a Cyclone Detection Doppler Radar at Kavali in Nellore district.

BAPIO gets emergency injunction against new rule

London, March 5 (UNI) The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) has obtained an emergency injunction against the Department of Health's recent guidance preventing the recruitment of doctors who do not have leave to work beyond August 1, 2007. Air Deccan in talks with SAIL, TISCO to access pvt airstrips

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) Budget airliner Air Deccan today announced that it is holding talks with SAIL and TISCO to leverage private airstrips as it is planning to expand services to ten new cities and towns over the next few months. The carrier planned that it would access SAIL's airstrip at Rourkela and TISCO's Jamshedpur airfield to extend its operation in the East. Zee plans to expand its media base in the Arab world

Dubai, Mar 6 (UNI) India's film entertainment and media conglomerate, Zee, will launch a news and current affairs channel this year for Arab viewers from its Dubai base, the company's chairman said.
