HC asks DTC to submit report on modernisation of bus shelters

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi Transport Corporation(DTC) to explain the details about the expenditure of Rs 85 crore collected from 4500 privates buses to modernise the public bus shelters in the Capital.

A division Bench of Justices Swatanter Kumar and H R Malhotra asked the DTC to file an affidavit by Friday stating the expenditure of the money to improve the bus stops.

Advocate Rajan Awasti submitted that the DTC was collecting Rs 2500 from each private bus as 'bus stop charge' since 2004 but not spending the money on the bus shelters.

On the other hand, the bus shelters were being constructed by leasing them to the private companies on built-operate-transfer (BOT) basis or by the state government.

Even the DTC was charging Rs 4000 from each private bus as 'bus terminal charge' for allowing them to enter the bus terminus, said Mr Awasti.

The court asked the Delhi Police to consult experts before spending Rs 85 crore to fix cameras at 640 traffic signal points to curb the traffic violation in the capital.

''The Commissiner of Police should consult camera experts and traffic experts before fixing 2190 cameras on traffic posts,'' said the bench while hearing a public interest petition (PIL).
