Govt to bring insurance cover for girl child's development

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The government is considering a proposal to provide an insurance safety net for girl child which would enable her to receive a lump sum at the age of 18 years with suitable medical and educational components, to ensure her survival and overall development, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said in a written reply that the proposal would be implemented in the eleventh Five Year Plan.

She said the proposal for a Conditional Cash and non-cash transfer Scheme to ensure overall welfare of the girl child is also under consideration under the the eleventh five Year Plan.

The transfers are based on fulfilment of four important conditionalities like the birth and registration of the girl child, immunisation, her retention in school and delaying her age of marriage beyond 18 years, she added.

Telephone booths on railway platforms to be returned to the disable

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) In a swift decision, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today ordered that the phone booths on the railway platforms run by the physically challenged be returned to them immediately. The order came in response to Congress member P J Kurien's plea that the disable should be returned their telephone booths which were forcibly taken away from them by the authorities. Opposition flays Budget for neglecting farm sector

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Opposition today flayed the General Budget for 2007-08 for its ''neglect'' of the farm sector and various sops to the corporate sector. Mr Mitrasen Yadav (BSP) said the budget has just ''ignored'' the concerns of the agricultural setor which toils hard to feed the nation.
