Cop arrested for taking bribe

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) A police inspector was caught red handed by the Lok Ayukta police while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from an iron ore dealer at Hosdurga in Chitradurga district of Karnataka, yesterday.

A Lok Ayukta release here said Hosdurga police inspector Habeebullah had demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh each month from Mr A Manohar, who had started a new shop under the name Sri Ayyappa Swamy Mineral Traders in Hosdurga. Based on his complaint, a case was registered.

A trap was laid and the accused was caught red handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. Habeebullah was arrested and Rs 1,23,000 unaccounted money was found in his person, which was also seized, the release said.

Passenger train between Vijayawada-Machilipatnam from Mar 27

Vijayawada, Mar 16 (UNI) The South Central Railway (SCR) will run a new passenger train daily between Vijayawada-Machilipatnam-Vijayawada from March 27. A SCR official told UNI here today, the passenger will leave here at 0830 hrs and reach Machilipatnam at 1130 hrs. In the return direction, the train will depart Machilipatnam at 1140 hrs and arrive here at 1410 hrs. UNI.....

Bike, bullock cart rallies against Cauvery verdict

Mysore, Mar 13 (UNI) Bike rally, procession by oil tankers and bullock cart rally marked the protests today against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar since February five. KPTCL official convicted in bribery case

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) A Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited official was convicted and sentenced to one year's rigorous imprisonment each under two sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 for showing official favour. A court in Belgaum also slapped a fine of Rs 14,000 on KPTCL Section Officer (Balekundri taluk, Belgaum district) Tamanna Maruthi Potadar, in default to undergo three months simple imprisonment each under the two sections.
