Conference on ancient medical systems in B'lore from Mar 15

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) To unfold the current trends and practices in ancient medical systems, a three-day international conference on 'Scientific Validation and Technical Evaluation of Ancient Medical Systems' will be held here from March 15.

Conference Convener Dr Prahlad T Kulkarni told UNI that the event was being organised by the Department of Medical Electronics and Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in association with CSIR, IIT and AIIMS, New Delhi. Over 300 delegates and speakers from across the globe were expected to take part in it.

He said medical electronics dealt with the study and development of modern medical equipment used for diagnosis and recording data of patients. The main focus of the conference would be to highlight how the application of ancient medical systems like ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha and homoeopathy could be more effective and useful to mankind at a low cost.

Dr Kulkarni said there would be separate sessions on ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha, homoeopathy, aromatherapy, music and sound therapy, touch therapy, naturo therapy and spiritual healing and instrumentation and experts would present research papers. There would also be pre-conference workshops on Panchakarma, Pranic Healing, Art of Living and Yoga Therapy, he added.

KPTCL official convicted in bribery case

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) A Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited official was convicted and sentenced to one year's rigorous imprisonment each under two sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 for showing official favour. A court in Belgaum also slapped a fine of Rs 14,000 on KPTCL Section Officer (Balekundri taluk, Belgaum district) Tamanna Maruthi Potadar, in default to undergo three months simple imprisonment each under the two sections. CHESCOM Assistant Engineer caught redhand while accepting bribe

Madikeri, Mar 13 (UNI) A CHESCOM Assistant Engineer was caught red hand by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting bribe for showing official favour. Lokayukta sources said that Srinivas was caught red handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe to install transformer from Capt. Madappa of Hulugunda near Siddapur yesterday. Capt Madappa had applied for regularization of 20 H.P. motor to draw water from Cauvery River. He had paid Rs 28,000 fee and deposit to the Electricity Department. But Srinivas was demanding.....

Cauvery issue to dominate budget session

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) The budget session of Karnataka Legislature will begin with a two-day special session on Cauvery issue from tomorrow. The session has been advanced by two days to March 14 to discuss the Cauvery water sharing issue in the House. The budget for 2007-08 will be presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B S Yediyurappa. Mr Yediyurappa will be presenting his second budget.
