BJP govt to make up revenue loss of Rs 155.71 crore

Dehradun, Mar 13 (UNI) Uttarakhand Governor Sudarshan Agarwal today said his government would try to make up in 2007-08 the estimated revenue loss of Rs 155.71 crore incurred in the financial year 2006-07.

Addressing the first session of the second elected Uttarakhand Assembly, he said his government would implement effective financial management and render judiciously the natural resources available in the state.

It would be the government's endeavour to check unnecessary expenditure to bring down the budget loss to zero. The government would also envisage releasing a white paper on the financial condition and debt of the state.

He said his government, rising above the political interest, casteism, regionalism, would strive towards development. He said his government would provide corruptionless, transparent and dedicated governance to the people with an effective administration.

It was also committed to solve the unemployment problem in the state. Respect to women and statehood agitationists, defence personnel active and retired, security to minorities and Dalits would be taken up as prime responsibilities.

To increase the power production in the state the new government would establish small hydro-electric projects in 'run of the River' projects so that power could be generated very soon without having people displaced for the project. The Government would mull over increasing yearly agricultural development rate by four per cent in the coming five years.

Curbing pollution in the Ganga was also one of the priorities of the government programmes along with strengthening of vigilance units to ensure transparent admininstration.

All incoming and outgoing flights cancelled in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) Air traffic in Kashmir remained suspended for the second day today as all the incoming and outgoing flights were today cancelled due to heavy snowfall. Official sources said no flight operated from Srinagar airport as over two feet of snow had accumulated on the runway which has also become slippery. 18 killed, 33 injured as bus plunges into gorge

Dehra Dun, Mar 13 (UNI) At least 18 people were killed and 33 others injured, 21 seriously, when a bus plunged into a deep gorge at Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand yesterday, police said today. police said, the bus carrying a marriage party was returning to Kolhu Bannu, Chopta, from Ghengharkhal, when the ccident occurred on Tilwada-Saunrakhal Marg. Thirteen passengers died on the spot and five succumed to injuries in Hospital, the sources added. Five have been admitted to the Jollygrant.....
