BJP to demand discussion on Quattrocchi issue

New Delhi, Mar 13: The BJP today said it would demand a discussion in Parliament on the government's ''failure'' to secure the extradition of Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi, who was detained in Argentina for three weeks in February.

BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said the party was cooperating with the government with regard to discussions on the General Budget and Railway Budget in Parliament.

''As soon as the discussions on these two vital issues are over, the BJP will raise the issue of allocating time for discussing the Quattrocchi issue in both Houses of Parliament,'' Ms Swaraj said after a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party, presided over by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

On the arrest of three UP undercover security personnel by the Delhi Police for trailing Jan Morcha leader VP Singh, she said ''political differences apart, this is a blatantly undemocratic act''. Ms Swaraj also recalled how the Chandrashekhar government had ''collapsed'' after two Haryana policemen were found keeping a watch on the then Congress President Rajiv Gandhi.

Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said he was not surprised by the development as ''there was no law and order in Uttar Pradesh and the administration was under the grip of goonda elements''.
