Bike, bullock cart rallies against Cauvery verdict

Mysore, Mar 13 (UNI) Bike rally, procession by oil tankers and bullock cart rally marked the protests today against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar since February five.

In Mandya, the three-day-old hunger strike by the Samajwadi Party workers at Silver Jubilee park was called off after party State President and former Chief Minister S Bangarappa advised so following MPs from the State meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urging him to intervene in the issue. A bullock cart procession was taken out by the villagers, Mandya Sports Club Association members and students of Mysugar High School. Protests and dharnas continued at Maddur, Mallavalli, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura and K R Pet in the district.

In Mysore, H D Kote Block Congress Committee, headed by former Minister M Shivanna, organised a motorcycle rally from Kabini reservoir in H D Kote to Mysore against the verdict. Later, they submitted a memorandum at the Deputy Commissioner's office, urging the State Government to reject the verdict and pursue a clear and focussed path to secure justice for the farmers. Members of the Mysore region Petroleum Dealers Association and owners of oil tankers formed a chain with over 100 oil tankers at the K R circle, disrupting normal traffic for some time.

Agitations were also held in Chamarajanagar district.

Cauvery issue to dominate budget session

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) The budget session of Karnataka Legislature will begin with a two-day special session on Cauvery issue from tomorrow. The session has been advanced by two days to March 14 to discuss the Cauvery water sharing issue in the House. The budget for 2007-08 will be presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister B S Yediyurappa. Mr Yediyurappa will be presenting his second budget. Water level in major Kerala reservoirs declines

Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) Water levels in major reservoirs in Kerala have decreased, according to the Central Water Commission (CWC). As per figures released by the CWC for the week ending March 12, the water level at Idukki decreased from 2357.20 ft to 2354.50 ft, at Idamalayar from 495.14 ft to 489.83 ft, and at Kallada from 346.59 ft to 341.21 ft. When compared with the water levels recorded during the same period last year, Kallada, Idukki and Idamalayar reservoirs.....

Sun Microsystems and NIIT Partner to offer solaris training

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) Sun Microsystems today announced extension of their partnership with NIIT, Asia's largest IT trainer, to offer training in the growing Open Source Computing through Sun Solaris Traing Programme. As part of the alliance NIIT would offer specialised training programme through its network of education centres as well as specialised solaris labs to be set up in key metros. The first two labs would come up in New Delhi and Mumbai, NIIT Chairman Vijay K Thadani told newsmen.....
