Villages in Rajasthan to have road connectivity by March 2008

Jaipur, Mar 12 (UNI) All villages in Rajasthan with a population of 500 or more will have road connectivity by March 2008.

This was stated by the Public Works Department Minister Rajendra Rathore at the Vidhan Sabha today in reply to a query during Question Hour.

He added the the Centre will provide Rs 2847 crore for the purpose under the Prime Minister Village Road project.

He said the state government had sent proposals to the Centre for road connectivity in 1764 villages with a population of over 250 in tribal-dominated and desert regions.

The Central scheme has already been completed in four phases.

The work in fifth and sixth phases are currently being undertaken.

Mr Rathore said Rajasthan stands first among states in terms of roads construction and maintenance and has received compliments from the World Bank.

Earlier, replying to BJP Keshardev Babar's question, Mr Rathore said 4490 roads have been built in the period between December 2003 to February 07 at a cost of Rs 2380 crore.

At present, work is on, on 10767 km long road which is expected to be completed by March 2008.

Speaker orders govt probe into 'Chaturvedi CD' issue

Lucknow, Mar 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey today asked the state government to order a high level probe into the reported conversation between a petitioner and a reporter in which the former had used objectionable language against the judiciary and at least two members of the House, including Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. Vishwanath Chaturvedi -- a Congress leader -- who had moved the SC with a PIL seeking probe into the assets owned by the Chief.....

Rains, hailsotrm dip temp in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Mar 12 (UNI) Unseasonal rains in Rajasthan have dipped temperatures yet again, ushering in mild cold conditions. Rainfall and hailstorm, which has been occurring over the last two days, is expected to stretch into this week. Bikaner recorded the highest rainfall, mapping 13.5 mm today. Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu witnessed hailstorm and heavy rain. Intermittent rain and drizzle continued in the state capital from yesterday. The rainfall recorded was 12.8 mm. The sky was partly cloudy today with rains.....
