VIIT, Intelm Yes Bank to present 7th annual Baramati Initiative

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Vidya Pratishthan's Institute of Technology (VIIT) along with Intel Technology and YES Bank will present the Seventh Annual Baramati Initiative on ICT and Development in Baramati.

The two-day conference is scheduled to commence from March 16 is likely to be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Science&Technology, Kapil Sibal, a release here today said.

Significant among those who also likely to attend the event include Ministers from Maharashtra government - Vimal Mundada (Health) and Dilip Walse Patil (Health Education).

The event would be presided over by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Anbumani Ramadoss and Union Minister for Agriculture, Food&Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Sharad Pawar.

Speaking on the initiative, VIIT Governing Council Chairman Sharad Kulkarni said ''The Baramati Initiative brings together several national and international experts from diverse backgrounds sharing their knowledge and expertise on ICT and Development. This year the key initiative will emphasize the importance of healthcare through the enormous potential of digital technologies and digital economy to help poor communities''.

The conference will focus on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Health (e-Health). Through this initiative VIIT, Intel and YES Bank aim to explore avenues that will enable Government, NGO's, development agencies, corporates and financial institutions to work towards successfully promote e-health for the benefit of the rural economy.

YES Bank Founder, Managing Director and CEO Rana Kapoor said ''We have adopted a focused and integrated strategy which balances economic growth and environmental challenges through our core focus on rural development, agribusiness, health and education.'' This initiative is in accordance with the bank's knowledge driven approach to banking, he added.

Sugar prices rise on fresh demand

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Sugar prices today rose on fresh demand, Bombay Sugar Merchants' Association traders here said. Sugar in small and medium grades hiked by Rs five each per quintal on reduced stock supply. Sugar in ex-mill small and medium grades remained steady on moderate demand. Following were the spot wholesale rates per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,485/1,515, Medium grade: Rs 1,505/1,555, Ex-mill: Small grade: Rs 1,470/1,480, Medium grade: Rs 1,495/1,510. UNI.....
