TN Govt to consider appointment

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today informed the Madras High Court that it had agreed to consider the appointment of bus drivers and conductors who were selected following the government order of July 21, 2005, subject to fulfilling certain conditions.

Recording an undertaking given by Advocate General R Viduthalai to the above effect, a Division Bench comprising Mr Justice S Mukhopadhya and Mr Justice R Sudhakar disposed of a batch of appeals from C Ramesh and 27 others, challenging an order of a single judge, dismissing their petitions.

In its order, the bench said the Advocate General submitted that he had discussed the matter with the concerned Minister and Managing Director of Corporation and agreed with the case of the appellants and other similarly situated persons who were selected pursuant to G.O No.57 dated July 21, 2005, subject to fulfilling the condition that they were found to be qualified for the post, if they were physically fit, including in vision test and if they possess valid license. It was further informed that at the time of considering the case of appellants and others out of year 2005 panel no other person should be considered whose names did not appear in the panel for appointment of drivers and conductors post.

If any person was found to be not qualified in physical and vision test and if they do not possess any valid driving license such persons shall not be considered for appointment. After completing the process of selection of 2005 panel, steps will be taken to fill up the post from the fresh panel of the year 2006. Hence the appeals are disposed of, the bench added.
