Three nominations for Palamu by-poll cancelled

Daltonganj, Mar 10 (UNI) Nominations of three candidates filed for the March 29 by-election to the Palamu Parliamentary seat were cancelled today.

District Electoral Officer Nagendra Prasad Singh here said the nominations of Lalan Bhuiyan(Samta Party), Parasnath Manjhi of Manav Mukti Morcha and Brahmdeo Ram(Independent) were cancelled.

Mr Singh said the nomination of Samta Party candidate was cancelled as he mentioned it as a national party. While in the case of the other two the names of the proposers were not found in the voters list.

About 21 nominations were filed till the last date of filing the nomination on March 9. Last date of withdrawal was fixed on March 14. Counting would be held on April 1.

The prominent candidates include Mr Jitendra Kumar (JD-U), Mr Jawahar Paswan (BJP), Mr Ghuran Ram (RJD) Mr Lalan Bhuiyan (Samata Party).

The by-election was necessitated after Mr Manoj Bhuiyan(RJD) lost his Lok Sabha seat following the cash-for-query scam.

Planning Committee elections on April 7

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced the programme for conducting of elections to the members of the District Planning Committees. As per schedule, the polling and counting of votes, and declaration of results would be held on April 7, Principal Secretary to the State Government M Samuel said here. CPI urges CEC to allow parties to issue whip to MLAs

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The CPI's Andhra Pradesh unit today urged the Election Commission of India to allow the political parties to issue whips to its MLAs for supporting the candidates contesting the Legislative Council elections, scheduled on March 22. According to a press release here, the CPI State Secretary K Narayana urged the CEC N Gopalaswami to allow the parties to issue whip to curb the ''horse trading'' during the election.
