St Kabir's School wins 'Shrishti: The Environment Quiz'

Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (UNI) St Kabir's school here today won the state-wide quiz on environment called 'Shrishti: The Environment Quiz 2007'.

Top 32 teams from Unha, Valsad, Vadodara, Junagadh and Ahmedabad, out of 1,400 schools in Gujarat slugged it out for the top spot.

However, St Zavier's Loyola had to be content with the runners-up position. Besides cash and other prizes for the winners, all participants went home with an array of eco-friendly prizes and books on the environment, a release here said.

The quiz, to be televised from May on DD 1, was anchored by Mallika Sarabhai. It is produced by Darpana Communications and supported by Ministry of Environment and Forests, the release added.

Cotton gutted in fire

Bhavnagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Bales of cotton were burnt in a fire at a cotton ginning factory at Garidhar taluka here. The fire engulfed the Vishwas ginning factory, owned by Akbharbhai Ibrahimbhai last evening, fire brigade sources said. Fire tenders from Garidhar and Bhavnagar rushed to the spot to douse the flames. The fire was caused by a short circuit, sources said. UNI.....

No single party gets absolute majority in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Mar 12 (UNI) The Congress won the highest number of seats (25), even as no party failed to secure an absolute majority in the Zilla Parishad (ZP) elections here, the elections for which were held yesterday. The Congress was followed by NCP securing 18 seats in the 69-member House, District Election branch sources said tonight. The Jansurajya Party, led by Maharashtra Non-Conventional Energy Minister Vinay Kore, bagged eight seats, while MLA Raj Shetty led Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatana two, sources said,.....

'Gujarat assembly reminds of jungle raj'

Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Speakers at a seminar on Parliamentary Democracy in Gujarat'' today lamented that happenings in the Gujarat Assembly reminded one of ''Jungle Raj''. ''When students of political science visit the state assembly, we teachers feel ashamed because of the commotion prevailing in the House,'' political scientist Dinesh Shukla said while participating in the seminar.
