Robbers decamp with valuables

Kancheepuram, Mar 12 (UNI) Miscreants gained entry into a locked house here and decamped with 22 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 2.60 lakh in cash.

Police sources said here today, the inmates of the house belonging to one Elangovan were away in Chennai when the incident happened.

The burglary was noticed when some workers who had come to the hosue for pipelaying work found the locks broken.

They informed his neighbour Prabakaran who passed the message to Elangovan over his mobile.

Elangovan rushed to his house and found the almirah broken and the valuables missing. Of the missing jewels, ten sovereigns belonged to Prabakaran who had given it to Elangovan for safekeeping as his house was under renovation.

Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.

Further investigations were underway.

Rapist-murderer awarded death sentence in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12 (UNI) A local court today awarded death sentence to a 29-year-old youth for sexually abusing and murdering a two-year-old girl at Pozhiyoor near here.
