Passengers agitate after Emirates flight delayed

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) Passengers of the Dubai bound Chennai-Dubai Emirates flight agitated over the indefenite delay in the departure of the flight at Anna International Airport this morning.

Airport sources said the flight, with 243 passengers, was scheduled to leave for Dubai at 0940 hrs. However, it did not take off till noon even after all the passengers had boarded the plane, provoking the passengers to agitate.

Later, the pilots announced that the delay was due to the ongoing repairs and maintenance works at the Dubai Airport runway, making flight operations impossible for the day.

The passengers were shifted to various hotels in the city.

The flight is now rescheduled to leave for Dubai at 2330 hrs, the sources added.

SVIMS to conduct health programme tomorrow

New legislation soon to protect paddy fields: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12 (UNI) Kerala Revenue Minister K P Rajendran told the Assembly today that a new legislation would be brought to plug all loopholes in the Kerala Land Utilisation Act to strictly check conversion of paddy fields for other purposes. Replying to a Calling Attention motion by Mr B Raghavan (CPI-M), he said such a legislation was necessary to protect the remaining paddy fields and sought people's cooperation to discourage filling of paddy fields. Puducherry has a low prevalence of HIV/AIDS: Minister

Puducherry, Feb 21 (UNI) The Union Territory of Puducherry has a low HIV/AIDS prevalence rate from its earlier category of medium prevalence, health minister E Valsaraj said here today.
