No drought in Vijaypur, says Govt

Bhopal, Mar 12 (UNI) The government today told the Madhya Pradesh Assembly that Vijaypur tahsil in Sheopur district was not declared drought-affected as the crop position was good despite shortfall in rains.

Revenue Minister Kamal Patel, while replying to a call attention notice brought by Mr Ram Niwas Rawat(Cong), said Kharif yield in all 223 villages was above 50 percent and average yield was 71 percent. In such a situation, the tahsil could not be declared drought-affected Mr Patel, however, admitted sowing of rabi crop was carried out in less area. Employment oriented works had been started as the district was covered under employment guarantee scheme, he said, adding there was no migration in search of work.

The Minister announced that sufficient fund would be provided for transporting water wherever required.

Mr Rawat pleaded that the tahsil should be declared drought-hit and recovery of bank loan and electricity dues be suspended.

Government Employees stage dharna braving ESMA in capital

Panaji, Mar 12 (UNI) Goa Government Employees today staged a dharna in the capital city braving the imposition of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) banning strikes by the public servants since Friday last.
