New car unit to come up in AP

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Even as the opposition grilled the Congress Government for its failure to prevent the shifting of the proposed car manufacturing unit of the Volkswagen to Pune, Major Industries Minister J Geetha Reddy today informed the State Assembly that MLR Motors, an associate of Fiat, would set up its unit in the state.

Replying to a question from G Kishan Reddy (BJP), she said the backward Telangana region would have its first car manufacturing unit with MLR Motors, which had tied-up with General Motors associated company in China Wooling and Auto major Fiat, setting up a four-wheeler manufacturing facility in the state.

The project would provide direct and indirect employment to 8,000 people, she added.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on March 2 had approved allocation of 500 acres of land to MLR Motors, for setting up the car-making unit in the Auto Park recognised as Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Corp budget aims at improvement of facilities, infrastructure

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) A tax-free budget laced with a slew of schemes to beautify the Marina and the other beaches in the city, improvement of facilities in parks, increased grant for roads, and construction of new bridges was presented by Chennai Corporation Mayor M Subramanian. Presenting the budget proposals, he said steps would be taken to construct flyovers in North and South Chennai, identified by the Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Finance Service Limited. Naidu withdraws remark against Speaker

Patients identified under TTD-run Pranadana scheme

Tirupati, Mar 16 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)-run Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) will treat 120 patients suffering from various major ailments under the TTD's Pranadana scheme. SVIMS, in a press release here today, said poor patients requiring super speciality treatment have been selected for free of cost under the scheme. The treatment would be given to patients suffering from heart ailments, cancer, brain-related cases, kidney, neurology, besides four cases referred by the government maternity and SVRR hospital......
