Pune, Mar 12 (UNI) The NCP was leading in both Zilla Parishad and Panchyat Samitis elections in Solapur District, polling for which was held yesterday.
Of the 68 seats for Zilla Parishad, the NCP has bagged 24 seats, while in the Panchyat Samitis segment they were leading with 35 seats out of a total of 135.
Following the announcement of the results, there was a group clash between NCP and Shiv Sena workers in which four persons were injured as police resorted to mild lathi charge and fired teargas shells to quell the mob.
Solapur Superintendent of Police Sahaji Solunke told UNI that several police jawans were also injured in the clash. So far, no one has been taken into custody and the situation is peaceful and under control, he said.
Following are the party wise results declared so far - Zilla Parishad: Total Seat 68. Election Held 66. (two declared elected unopposed) NCP 24, Congress 9, BJP 1, SKP 4 and Independent one.
Panchyat Samitis: Total seat 136. Election Held 135. (one declared elected unopposed).
NCP 35, Cong 16, BJP 3, Shiv sena 1, SKP 9 and independents 15.
