Nari Lepcha send to 5-day police custody

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) A city court today remanded India Reserve Battalion constable Nari Lepcha who shot dead five Sikkim Police personnel here yesterday, to five-day police custody.

Taking up the case in his chamber, Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Jindal sent Lepcha to police custody till March 16.

The accused had shot dead five Sikkim Police personnel guarding a bank in Old Delhi early yesterday.

Lepcha had first accused his colleague J S Subba of committing the crime in order to mislead the investigators. Later, however, he confessed to the killings.

The police claimed that some of Lepcha's colleagues had tried to sodomise him, at which Lepcha picked up his service weapon and killed three of them. One of the Sikkim Police personnel Luxman Subba attacked him with an axe, causing an injury on his right shoulder but Lepcha was able to overpower Subba and killed him and another constable.

115 bootleggers arrested from N-W Delhi in 4 days

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) As part of the special drive to check sale of illicit liquor during Holi, police have arrested 115 bootleggers and liquor suppliers from North-West Delhi in the past four days. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West Delhi) Manish K Agrawal said 4815 liquor bottles and 35 litres of crude liquor have been recovered from them. He said the arrests have been made under the Excise Act. During the current year, 644 people have been booked till.....

Trial court remands 33 accused in riot case to 14 day JC

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) A city court today remanded 33 people accused of rioting in 2001 to 14 days judicial custody. Metropolitan Magistrate Vinay Singhal sent all the accused in judicial custody till March 25. However, two accused managed to escape from the court and only 31 accused were taken into custody. In July 2001, a mob, led by Choudhary Salahuddiun, allegedly attacked the house of complainant Mohammad Shamim in Sadar Bazar. The trial court had issued summons.....

Metro Services to be curtailed on Holi

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Delhi Metro will run on curtailed services on the occasion of Holi on Sunday. On Sunday, Metro services will not be available till 1400 hrs on all three lines of the Delhi Metro rail Corporation (DMRC), i.e, Shahdara to Rithala, VishwaVidyalaya to Central Secretariat and Indraprastha to Dwarka Sector-9, a DMRC spokesperson said. Metro services will start at 1400 hrs and will continue normally thereafter, the spokesperson added. UNI.....
