Modi announces Rs 50,000 compensation for Aarti's family

Gandhinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Narendra Modi today announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, to the family of Aarti, from Karamdia village of Bhavnagar district, who died after slipping into a 60-feet deep borewell.

Three-year-old Aarti had survived for an hour after falling into the well but died of suffocation last night before rescue team from Ahmedabad could begin work.

Rescue teams from Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation had rushed to the spot, besides the ONGC team but could not save the child, Mr Modi said.

Gujarat received no assistance from Centre during floods: Minister

Gandhinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Gujarat has not received any financial assistance from the Centre towards rehabilitation of people affected by last year's floods in Surat and elsewhere in the state, Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel told the Legislative Assembly today. Mr Patel's statement, however, evoked strong protests from the Congress who alleged that the Minister was misleading the House. Law and order situation has worsened in Gujarat: Modhwadia

Gandhinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Arjun Modhwadia today alleged that the law and order situation in Gujarat has deteriorated under the present regime. In a debate on the budgetary demands of the Home Department, Mr Modhwadia said the state has recorded over 17,300 unnatural deaths during the last one year. Over 5,000 people have committed suicide in the state during the period, he said adding that the figure of 17,300 exceeds the casualties suffered in.....
