Kerala to promote hydel tourism

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today told the Assembly that the government was taking immediate steps to develop hydel tourism projects and improve basic facilities in view of the increasing tourists inflow.

In a written reply, he said the government was also proposing to develop the Banasurasagar Project as a mega tourist complex through the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre.

As part of the project, it was also planning to construct cottages and other tourist attractions like rope-ways connecting islands and developing water sports in reservoirs without affecting the environment.

Besides, pisciculture in reservoirs would be promoted for tourism, he added.

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The government today denied that it was considering a proposal to set up fast track courts to settle environmental disputes. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy said the Law Commission, in its 186th report, had recommended setting up of Environment Courts for dealing with environmental disputes, besides having appellate jurisdiction in respect of appeals under the various pollution control laws.
