Journalists organise dharna

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 12 (UNI) Hundreds of journalists today organised a massive rally at Kovvuru town in West Godavari district near here, in protest against the attacks on mediapersons recently.

The journalists, under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Kovvuru. Later they went to the office of the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) and staged dharna over four hours.

They demanded that immediate action should be taken against the culprits who attacked T Satyanarayana Reddy, reporter of a private news channel, at Purushothampalli near here recently.

They also demanded action against MPTC members who attacked the photographer of a Telugu daily late last night here, while he was taking stills of the camp politics of Legislative Council Elections.

IJU National Council member M Srihari Rao and APUWJ West Godavari President K Manikya Rao led the delegation.

Puducherry has a low prevalence of HIV/AIDS: Minister

Puducherry, Feb 21 (UNI) The Union Territory of Puducherry has a low HIV/AIDS prevalence rate from its earlier category of medium prevalence, health minister E Valsaraj said here today. Inaugurating the joint review workshop on the progress and performance of projects of the National Rural Health Mission at Puducherry with focus on maternal health care here Mr Valsaraj said AIDS control measures in Puducherry were in progress and awareness among the women was 97 per cent as per the NFHS surevey-II......

Karnataka Choultry staff to intesify agitation from mid night

Tirumala, Mar 12 (UNI) Protesting against the decision of the Karnataka Endowment ministry to handover the management of the Karnataka Choultry located in Tirumala to private parties, the staff members of the Choultry, who were on relay hunger strike, would intensify there agitation from midnight today. The talks between staff and Government were in progress and 165 employees working in various departments, would intesify their agitation, unless the Karnataka Government drop their proposed decision, the employees of the Choultry said here......

Apollo, StemCyte ink pact on stem cell therapy

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) The Apollo Hospitals today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with StemCyte for using stem cell therapy on patients suffering from diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and thalassemia. The MoU was signed by Apollo Hospitals Executive Chairman Prathap C Reddy and StemCyte Vice-President and Business Development David Carmel here.
