Incoming and outgoing fligts cancelled in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) All incoming and outgoing flights were today cancelled due to heavy snowfall in the Kashmir valley.

An official of the Srinagar airport said only one flight from Jammu arrived at 1100 hours when there was slight improvement in the visibility.

About a dozen flights are operating between Srinagar-Jammu and Delhi daily. However, due to snowfall and poor visibility all the flights have been cancelled.

Hundreds of passengers had to return back from the airport after cancellation of flights.

The Srinagar-Jammu national highway is already closed for traffic since yesterday due to heavy snowfall, landslides and shooting of stones.

Meanwhile, the tourism department had made arrangements for the stranded tourists from Mumbai and other states.

Efforts are also being made to bring back a number of foreign tourists stranded on the highway.

Digvijay claims he is not anti-employee

Bhopal, Mar 12 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said in the Assembly that he was never against government employees though the BJP succeeded in misleading them for political gain. On the other hand, the BJP regime ''revealed an anti-employee attitude'' by not sanctioning additional dearness allowance of nine per cent on the central pattern, Mr Singh alleged while initiating the debate on the state's budgetary demands for 2007-08. Heavy snowfall in higher ranges of Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Mar 12 (UNI) Heavy snowfall occurred in the higher ranges of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Chamoli in Uttarakhand today. Continuous rainfall has resulted in reducing the temperature of most of the places in the state including the state capital. Director, Weather Department, Anand Sharma said the change in weather has been caused due to western disturbances. The weather was likely to remain gloomy for two to three days, he said. Srinagar receives heavy snowfall of this year

Srinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed heavy snowfall since early this morning after overnight rains. Traffic movement in the city was disrupted following unrelenting swowfall. Heavy snowfall was also recorded at famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Kupwara, Baramulla, Sopore, Charar-e-Sharief and other areas in central and north Kashmir, resulting in considerable cold.
