Govt Depts told to submit no: of minority community employees

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Centre has started the process of ascertaining the number of government employees belonging to minority communities, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

The Department of Personnel and Training has issued instruction to various departments and public sector undertakings to submit information regarding representation of minorities, Minister for Minority Affairs A R Antulay said in a written reply.

While stating that the Recommendations of the Sachar Committee were under consideration, the Minister also said districts, CD Blocks and towns having a substantial minority population had been identified in consultation of with the Registrar-General of Inddia.

An inter-ministerial Task Force has already been constituted to formulate the approach for development of such towns, he said.

Replying to another question, he said that as advised by Banking Division of the Ministry of Finance, the Reserve Bank of India had issued instruction to all the scheduled commercial banks to ensure that minorities receive an equitable share of credit and lead banks had been requested to keep this in view while preparing district credit plans.

Budget a fraud on common man: Malhotra

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Dismissing the General Budget as ''disappointing and shameful'', BJP Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha V K Malhotra today said it was a fraud on the common man and a ''breach of trust'' with the farmers and employees. ''The common man is missing from the Budget,'' he said, initiating discussion on the General Budget 2007-08 vote on account. MPs compliment ISRO on launch of INSAT-4B

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and members of the House today congratulated the Chairman and scientists of ISRO on the successful launch of INSAT-4B. Earlier, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan announced in the Rajya Sabha that India's latest satellite INSAT-4B was successfully launched early this morning by European Ariane-5 launch vehicle from Kourou, French Guyana.
