Jammu, Mar 12: At least five pilgrims, including two children, today died of intense cold on their way to Vaishnodevi cave shrine on Trikuta hills at Katra in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, police sources said.

An unidentified woman, her daughter Sewerani, 28, Manoj Kumar, 7, son of Dhan Lal and Manoj Kumari, 8, daughter of Kanhaiya Lal of Uttar Pradesh reportedly died due to cold at Adh Kuwari, six kms on the Trikuta hill from Katra, police said.

Another person identified as Manohar Madhu Matre of Mumbai died at Ban Ganga in the foothills last night.

Ten other pilgrims were hospitalised due to decline in their health condition because of intense cold, they added.

Meanwhile, fresh snowfall in the upper reaches and incessant rains in the plains across the state have pushed mercury downwards, paralysing normal life.

According to official forecast, the condition will remain the same for the next 24 hours.

The actual Aswamedha yagya will be conducted on March 18 where 551 yagya fires will be lit up after which the aswamedha (white horse) would be released.

Villages in Rajasthan to have road connectivity by March 2008

Jaipur, Mar 12 (UNI) All villages in Rajasthan with a population of 500 or more will have road connectivity by March 2008.

This was stated by the Public Works Department Minister Rajendra Rathore at the Vidhan Sabha today in reply to a query during Question Hour.

He added the the Centre will provide Rs 2847 crore for the purpose under the Prime Minister Village Road project.

He said the state government had sent proposals to the Centre for road.....

Digvijay blames MP CM for communal tension

Bhopal, Mar 12 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today expressed concern in the Assembly over the ''widening communal divide'' in Madhya Pradesh and held Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's ''inaction''responsible for the impasse.

''The Chief Minister's inaction and commitment to a different ideology were responsible for mounting communal tension across the state. Pamphlets dubbing Muslims as terrorists were being distributed. BJP and Bajrang Dal workers unleashed terror on Muslims and Christians,'' Mr Singh alleged while initiating the general.....

Kerala to promote hydel tourism

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today told the Assembly that the government was taking immediate steps to develop hydel tourism projects and improve basic facilities in view of the increasing tourists inflow.

In a written reply, he said the government was also proposing to develop the Banasurasagar Project as a mega tourist complex through the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre.

As part of the project, it was also planning to construct cottages and other tourist attractions like.....
