FIEO urges TN to set up seperate export promotion board

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) today urged the Tamil Nadu government to set up a seperate Tamil Nadu export promotion board and also announce an exclusive export promotion policy for the state.

During the first meeting of the newly constituted special task force under the chairmanship of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, FIEO Southern Region Chairman and Vice-President A Sakthivel insisted the government to come out with flexible labour law, through which contract labour should be allowed in the textile sector especially in apparel manufacturing units, which provide at least 200 days of employment in one year.

Mr Sakthivel requested the state government to set up training facilities for fabric designing, blending, garent designing, fabric processing and production tailoring as these were in constant demand.

The FIEO Chairman also highlighted the vast potential of Siddha medicines, for which a request had been submitted to the state government for setting up research facilities and establishing specific brands for overseas market promotion.

Mr Sakthivel urged the government to allow small and medium scale industries to set up windmill plants and allow them to draw power through LT lines.

AEPC to set up 50 training centres across India

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) With the intention of inviting investments and creating more jobs in the textile industry, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is setting up 50 Apparel Training and Design Centres (ATDCs) across the country during 2007. The centres will conduct various training courses on garment manufacturing at the shop floor level, AEPC Chairman Vijay Kumar Agarwal told mediapersons while inaugurating a new ATDC in the city here today. 7 Deccan passengers fail to board Agartala flight

Kolkata, Mar 4 (UNI) A number of Air Deccan passengers today protested against the airline authority at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport as they were not accomodated in an Agartala-bound flight in spite of possessing valid tickets. Airport officials said the Deccan flight was scheduled to depart at 1250 hrs. Although the aircraft had a capacity of 180 seats, tickets were issued to 187 passengers.
