Elderly person in Shimla returns Rs 4.05 lakh to SBI

Shimla, Mar 12 (UNI) In a rare show of honesty, an elderly person here today returned a sum of Rs 4,05 lakh to Chotta Shimla branch of State Bank of India (SBI) after its cashier had inadvertently handed him a sum of Rs 4.50 lakh instead of Rs 45,000.

The bank's cashier had handed over nine bundles of Rs 500 each to Mr Sewa Singh, an elderly person and a resident of Strawberry Hills, instead of nine bundles of Rs 50 each after he came to the bank to withdraw a sum of Rs 45,000.

Mr Singh after counting the money at his home returned to the Chotta Shimla branch of the bank and deposited the money.

The overwhelmed cashier and other bank officials have thanked Mr Singh for his honesty.

INSAT-4B launch important landmark for India: Nair

Vaishnodevi yatra suspended as 5 pilgrims die of cold

Jammu, Mar 12 (UNI) At least five pilgrims died and ten others fell unconscious on their way to the Shri Vaishnodevi cave shrine due to unprecedented heavy rains and cold weather in the area, official sources said. Meanwhile, the pilgrimage to the shrine on the new track from Indraprasth to Manokamana Bhawan has been halted due to cold conditions and the yatris have advised not to move without umbrellas and raincoats. Chautala cornered by Cong members on SYL issue

Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) The Haryana assembly today witnessed heated exchanges between the ruling Congress and opposition INLD members on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue. Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala (INLD), who stated during the discussion on the Governor's address that the Hooda government had not done anything for the construction of the SYL canal, had to face a combined and repeated onslaught from the Congress members.
