EC announces schedule for bypolls to 3 LS seats in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Byelectipons to the Ramtek, Jalgaon and Erandol Lok Sabha constituencies will be held on April 9, the Election Commission today announced.

The counting of votes will be taken up on April 12.

Jalgaon and Erandol were among the ten constituencies which fell vacant following the expulsion of the sitting members, implicated in the infamous 'Cash for Query' scam, on December 23, 2005, while Ramtek, fell vacant, due to resignation of Shiv Sena member Subodh Mohite, who subsequently joined the Congress.

According to EC release issued here today, the notification for these three seats will be issued on March 16, the last date of filing nominations will be March 23 and the scrutiny of nominations will be taken up the next day.

The last date for withdrawal of candidates has been fixed for March 26 The election process shall be completed by April 16.

Punjab assembly session on March 15

Chandigarh, Mar 8 (UNI) Punjab Governor Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues has summoned the first session of the 13th Vidhan Sabha on March 15, an official release today said. The 13th Vidhan Sabha was formally constituted on March one. The state Cabinet in its first meeting this week had given its approval to holding the session from March 15 to March 29. UNI.....

Nominations open tomorrow for 1st phase of UP polls

Lucknow, Mar 12 (UNI) Nominations open tomorrow for the first of the seven-phase Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in 62 seats of 13 districts in southern parts of the state with the issue of the election notification. Nomination papers can be filed till March 20. The Scrutiny of papers would be done on March 21 and nomination papers can be withdrawn till March 23. ''All preparations for the smooth conduct of elections have already been completed in the districts where polls are.....

Congress Bajpur candidate urges EC for central observers.

Dehradun, Mar 12 (UNI) Congress candidate for the Bajpur Assembly constituency in Uttarakhand, Ms Kailash Rani, has urged the Election Commission to depute central observers for the polls to be held on March 25. PCC deputy spokesperson said Ms Rani and representatives of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee today called on the CEO and handed over the memorandum addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner. Election for the Bajpur constituency was deferred due to death of Congress candidate Janakraj Sharma in a road.....
