Dr Kurien receives 'Karamveer' award

Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Former Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation chairman Dr Varghese Kurien was conferred the ''Karmaveer Puraskar'' at a function in Delhi recently.

The award, instituted by the Indian Confederation of NGOs (ICONGO)-Khemka Foundation, was conferred upon Dr Kurien last Saturday, according to a press release here today.

Dr Kurien was bestowed the award for his exemplary work in promoting cooperative dairying through ''Amul'', creating wealth for communities, and for his efforts towards empowering women, the release said.

The Indian Confederation of NGOs was established in December 2004 to create a movement of socially responsible citizens, while Khemka Foundation is a charitable trust, the release said.

ATF production begins at ONGC plant in Hazira

Surat, Mar 12 (UNI) Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) (Ltd) has formally begun production of Aviation Turbine Fuel at their Hazira plant here today, ONGC Director (Offshore) N K Mitra said. Gas-based ATF is used as an aviation fuel and ONGC is the first company in the country to manufacture it. The ATF manufactured in Hazira plant will be superior in terms of thermal stability and viscocity and it will be environmental friendly, sources added. The ONGC plant at Hazira.....

Gujarat received no assistance from Centre during floods: Minister

Gandhinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Gujarat has not received any financial assistance from the Centre towards rehabilitation of people affected by last year's floods in Surat and elsewhere in the state, Revenue Minister Kaushik Patel told the Legislative Assembly today. Mr Patel's statement, however, evoked strong protests from the Congress who alleged that the Minister was misleading the House. During the Question Hour, the Minister stated that the Centre had not provided any financial assistance to the state despite Gujarat's submission that.....
