DMK stages demo condemning killing of fishermen by Lankan Navy

Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu today staged an hour-long demonstration to condemn the indiscriminate killing of Tamil fishermen and demanded an end to this undeclared war by the Lankan navy, even as fishermen in Rameswaram stayed away from sea to condemn the attacks.

The hour-long demonstration, held in front of the office of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here, was led by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister K P P Samy and more than 5,000 DMK activists participated in it.

Tamil Nadu Ministers Arcot N Veerasamy, K Duraimurugan, M K Stalin, Parithi Elamvazhuthi and T M Anbarasan and party functionaries J Anbazhagan and L Balaraman, were among those, who participated in the agitation.

Later, Mr Samy accompanied by Mr Veerasamy and Mr Stalin submitted a memorandum to Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner P H Amza, urging him to take immediate steps to put an end to the ''undeclared war'' indulged in by that country's navy against the unarmed and innocent fishermen of Tamil Nadu.

In the memorandum, the DMK said the Lankan Navy had indulged in unprovoked attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen. ''They had shot fishermen to death. Fishing boats and catches of fishermen were unlawfully seized and a few fishermen were illegally arrested.'' More UNI

TDP stages walkout on price rise issue

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) The main opposition Telugu Desam Party today staged a walkout in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in protest against the alleged failure of the Centre and state governments to prevent skyrocketing of the prices of essential commodities in the state. Kerala to promote hydel tourism

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 12 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today told the Assembly that the government was taking immediate steps to develop hydel tourism projects and improve basic facilities in view of the increasing tourists inflow. In a written reply, he said the government was also proposing to develop the Banasurasagar Project as a mega tourist complex through the Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre. BJP MP seeks protection alleging torture

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Aditya Nath today demanded protection, alleging that he was being falsely implicated in cases by the Uttar Pradesh Government.
