Delhi HC refuses to stay MCD elections

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today refused to restrain the government from conducting the MCD elections, scheduled to be held on April 5.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sarma and Justice Sanjib Khanna, however, issued notices to the Delhi government, State Election Commission and the MCD to file their replies to the allegations in the petition by March 22, the next date of hearing.

Petitioner Ashok Jindal had challenged the order of a single judge bench of the same court, which approved the Delimitation Commission report reserving seats for Scheduled Castes and women candidates in the 272-ward civic body.

Children welcome increase budget allocation on health, education

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Welcoming the increase in the budget allocation for education and health, Wada Na Todo Abhiyan, a movement of children demanding about 9 per cent of GDP on the two sector, said the centre should now enable states to increase their expenditure in these areas affecting children. SC directs TEC, GMB, GPCB for report on dismantling Blue Lady

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed Technical Experts Committee (TEC), Gujarat Maritime Board and Gujarat Pollution Control Board to report within three months whether stipulations prescribed for dismantling a ship containing hazardous substances have been followed before granting approval for dismantling the Norwegian vessel Blue Lady. A bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia in its order also said focus will be on whether 80 per cent of asbestos is reusable as claimed and.....

Nari Lepcha send to 5-day police custody

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) A city court today remanded India Reserve Battalion constable Nari Lepcha who shot dead five Sikkim Police personnel here yesterday, to five-day police custody. Taking up the case in his chamber, Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Jindal sent Lepcha to police custody till March 16. The accused had shot dead five Sikkim Police personnel guarding a bank in Old Delhi early yesterday. Lepcha had first accused his colleague J S Subba of committing the crime in order.....
