Counting for byelections in Nagaland begins

Kohima, Mar 12 (UNI) Counting of votes for the byelections to Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly seats began at 0800 hours this morning.

Polling took place on March eight.

According to Election Office sources, counting of votes for both Assembly constituencies began at their respective district headquarters.

In Dimapur-I Assembly seat, altogether five candidates were in the fray, while in Tuensang Sadar-II Assembly constituency, four candidates tried their luck.

According to the latest trend, in Dimapur-I, NPF candidate was leading, while in Tuensang Congress candidate was on the lead.

Planning Committee elections on April 7

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced the programme for conducting of elections to the members of the District Planning Committees. As per schedule, the polling and counting of votes, and declaration of results would be held on April 7, Principal Secretary to the State Government M Samuel said here. CPI urges CEC to allow parties to issue whip to MLAs

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The CPI's Andhra Pradesh unit today urged the Election Commission of India to allow the political parties to issue whips to its MLAs for supporting the candidates contesting the Legislative Council elections, scheduled on March 22. According to a press release here, the CPI State Secretary K Narayana urged the CEC N Gopalaswami to allow the parties to issue whip to curb the ''horse trading'' during the election. He also urged the CEC to adopt the open.....

JD(U) retains Islampur seat

Biharsharif, Mar 14 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) today retained the Islampur assembly seat after defeating the UPA the March 11 bypolls. JD(U) candidate Pratima Sinha secured 42,823 votes, while UPA candidate and CPI leader Rakesh Kumar Roshan got 33,491 votes, official sources said. CPI(ML) candidate Sudhir Kumar scored 5,344 votes while three other candidates lost their deposits. Six candidates were in the fray for the seat. The by-election was necessary in Islampur after JD(U)'s Ram Swaroop Prasad resigned after being elected.....
