Cotton gutted in fire

Bhavnagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Bales of cotton were burnt in a fire at a cotton ginning factory at Garidhar taluka here.

The fire engulfed the Vishwas ginning factory, owned by Akbharbhai Ibrahimbhai last evening, fire brigade sources said. Fire tenders from Garidhar and Bhavnagar rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

The fire was caused by a short circuit, sources said.

Thane, Mar 12 (UNI) The NCP has emerged as the single largest party in the Thane Zilla Parishad elections to which were held yesterday. Man strangulates wife to death

Kolhapur, Mar 12 (UNI) A 22-year-old married woman has been strangulated to death by her husband, allegedly for objecting to his illicit relations with another woman, at village Arale in Panhala tehsil of this district. Police said the deceased, identified as Namrata Nivas Shinde, was unhappy about her husband, Niwas Shinde's (a cable operator) illicit relationship with a woman in the village. Namarata often tried to persuade Nivas to end the relationship. Angry over this, Nivas allegedly strangulated Namrata to death.....

Kolhapur, Mar 12 (UNI) A bullock-cart owner, accompanied by his bullock, fell into Vedgaonga river of this district while crossing a bandhara and lost life. Police said, the deceased, Namdev Patil from Gormbe village in Kagal tehsil, was on his way back to a field after disloading sugarcane to the Sadashivrao Mandalik Co-operative Sugar Factory at Hamidwada when the mishap took place yesterday.
