Congress Bajpur candidate urges EC for central observers.

Dehradun, Mar 12 (UNI) Congress candidate for the Bajpur Assembly constituency in Uttarakhand, Ms Kailash Rani, has urged the Election Commission to depute central observers for the polls to be held on March 25.

PCC deputy spokesperson said Ms Rani and representatives of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee today called on the CEO and handed over the memorandum addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner.

Election for the Bajpur constituency was deferred due to death of Congress candidate Janakraj Sharma in a road accident on February 18, three days prior to the Assembly election.

61,558 widows being granted social security pension, says CM

Shimla, Mar 8 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said his government had sanctioned social security pension to 61,558 widows, taking the total number of social security pensioners in the state to 2,12,250. Addressing a state level function organised to mark the International Women's Day here, he said 25,000 more eligible people would be added to the list during the next financial year. Mr Singh said his government would open retail outlets in every district to market the products.....

No nominations filed in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) No papers were submitted on the opening day of filing of nominations today for the by-election to fill one seat each from Punjab and Haryana in the Rajya Sabha. The last date of filing of nominations is March 19. Scrutiny will be held the next day. The last day of withdrawal of candidature is March 22, polling, if necessary will be held on March 29. The by-elections were necessiated due to the recent deaths of sitting.....

Awards to MP panchayats for women's uplift

Bhopal, Mar 8 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that awards would be given to village panchayats that organised separate women's gram sabhas for solving women's problems and attained a 50:50 gender balance. ''Women's reservation in civic bodies, teachers' posts and the police are steps towards empowerment,'' he said at the Ravindra Bhavan here while addressing a state-level programme to mark the International Women's Day. The draft of Madhya Pradesh's Women's Policy 2007-11 was also presented on.....
