Coldwave in HP after more rain and snow

Shimla, Mar 12 (UNI) Coldwave conditions have revived in Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall in higher altitude areas and widespread rains in the mid and lower hills of the state during the last 24 hurs, the met office said today.

High reaches of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Kangra and Sirmuar districts were experiencing heavy snowfall, while heavy rains were lashing the lower areas of the state.

Kullu district of the state recorded another heavy snowfall during the month with Dhundi recording 120 cm of fresh snow, Solang Nullah 75 cm, Bhang Manali 50 and tourist resort of Manali over 45 cm of snow.

Rohtang Pass, situated at over 13,050 feet, had so far recorded over 180 cm of fresh snow and Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner R Selvam has warned people not to venture out to cross the Pass due to threat of avalanches.

Tindi, Trilokinath, Darcha and Koksar in the district had so far recorded between 90 cm to 120 cm of snow Udaipur and Patsio in Lahaul Spiti district had so far recorded about 60 and 35 cm of snow respectively, while Kalpa in Kinnuar district had received about 45 cm of fresh snow.

Keylong, the district headquarter of Lahaul Spiti, had received over 90 cm of fresh snowfall, while Rekong Peo, the district headquarter of Kinnuar district had experiencing 60 cm of snow during the last 24 hrs.

A report from Chamba district said Pangi and Bharmaur areas of the district were cut off from the rest of the state after receiving heavy snowfall during the last two days.

Government declare two-day holiday in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 12 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Government has declared closure of all educational institution in the Kashmir valley for two days from tomorrow following heavy snowfall. This decision was taken at a meeting here this afternoon in the wake of heavy snowfall in the entire valley, including Srinagar, Kargil and Drass. The schools will now reopen on March 15. The Kashmir University has also postponed entrance examinations for different post graduate courses as majority roads to far flung and remote.....

CM expresses concern over female foeticide

Shimla, Mar 12 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today expressed concern over female foeticide in the state and said steps initiated by the state government have been successful in arresting a sharp decline in the sex ratio. Replying to a question by Rahgu Raj (Cong) during question hour in the Assembly here, he admitted that female foeticide was a cause for concern but said effective steps have been initiated to check decline in girl population in the state.
