AP Govt contemplating water conservation

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said that conservation of water was the most important aspect in the present context.

While making all out efforts to provide water under lift irrigation, the state government was contemplating conservation of water through Micro irrigation on a largescale.

Similarly, efforts were being made for bringing water from Krishna and Godavari rivers. Conservation of water for drinking purposes should also be taken up in a big way, he said adding for this, citizen participation was very essential.

The Chief Minister unveiled a Mascot brought out by the Hyderabad Metro Water supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) here in connection with the World Water Day celebrations.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to concentrate on educating the public on water conservation, rain water harvesting, prevent overflow of drinking water, besides taking necessary steps for convincing them about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling of water and to act responsibly towards this scarce natural resource.

HMWSSB Managing Director K S Jawahar Reddy, while explaining about the features of the Mascot, which resembles drops of water, said that it had a universal appeal for all stakeholders irrespective of age.

5-day Indo-US workshop on avian influenza concludes

About 33 million Indians suffering from CKD: Expert

Bangalore, Mar 9 (UNI) An estimated 33 million people in India suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and the number is likely to go up to 70 million by 2025, noted nephrologist Urmila Anantdh has said. ''Cases of diabetes are dangerously increasing among the Indian population. Polio drops to be administered to over 82 lakh children in Guj

Ahmedabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Polio drops would be administered to more than 82 lakh children in Gujarat under the Child Polio Eradication Drive, starting tommorrow. State Health Minister Ashok Bhatt told reporters that the State administration aimed to cover 82.10 lakh children, below five years of age, under the drive in a period of five years ''There would be 34,000 booths set up by 25 districts and six corporations in the State. As many as 68,000 teams will visit every household.....
