2-day national vendor development programme from Mar 15

Panaji, Mar 12 (UNI) A two-day national-level vendor development programme will be held here to promote buyer-seller activity of industrial goods from March 15.

Chief Secretary J P Singh will inaugurate the programme.

Various national and state industries, showcasing their industrial mite termed 'Interface-2007' will also be opened in this connection. It is being organised by the Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) in collaboration with the SIBDI, Goa Small Industries Association and the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Kala Academy grounds.

Defence, Western Railways, Ordnance Factory, BSNL, BHEL, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, Konkan Railways, Goa Shipyard Limited, Mormugao Port Trust and other public sector enterprises besides private sector units will participate in the exhibition.

This provides a platform for the industry to promote vendor development among small and medium enterprises which would in turn demonstrate their competency to participate in outsourcing, according to the organisers.

Industrial Advisor (Modernisation) J J Arya, in the office of SSI, government of India, besides Goa industry secretary V K Jha will participate in the seminar.

45 houses gutted in fire

Lucknow, Mar 5 (UNI) About 45 dwellings were reduced to ashes in two fire incidents in Sultanpur and Sitapur districts of Uttar Pradesh today. A report from Sultanpur said blazing flames -- helped by velocity winds this afternoon -- engulfed almost 20 houses in Pratap Singh village and destroyed property worth lakhs of rupees. A hut caught fire in Bhitla village area, as the inmate was cooking food. Soon, about 25 houses in the vicinity were gutted. No loss of life.....

Govt reconsider Rs 300 per tonne export duty on iron ore: Rane

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) Goa government has appealed to the Centre to reconsider the introduction of export duty of Rs 300 per tonne on iron ore in the General Budget 2007-08, saying it is vital for the economy of the state. Increase in export duty on the low standard iron ore to Rs 300 a tonne will jeopardise the trade in iron ore and directly or indirectly effect employment of 50,000 people engaged in this trade. NABARD sanctions Rs36,000 crore in 'AP credit plan'

Hyderabad, Mar 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has allocated Rs 36,000 crore to the state under '2007-08 credit plan', as against Rs 32,000 crore last year. Participating in the state credit seminar by NABARD here, he said the bank has given priority to agriculture and allied activities sanctioning highest allocations of Rs 23,130 crore, while Rs 18,628 crore was earmarked for crop loans and Rs.....
