Villagers of Thengaithittu decide to intensify strike

Puducherry, Mar 11 (UNI) The villagers of the Thengaithittu opposing the port development project has decided to intensify their strike to press the government and drop the proposal here.

Over 300 villagers led by Councillor Bhaskaran and Puducherry Lok Sabha Member M Ramadass today went to Thailavaram and met PMK Founder and Leader Dr Ramdoss and urged his intervention in the matter.

Dr Ramdoss had reportedly assured them to look into the issue, the villagers said.

It may be noted that their village will severely be affected if the port development project had taken up, the villagers of Thengaithittu had constituted a committee and organised several agitations, including hoisting of black flags atop their houses recently.

Cong workers to hold demo for Dalit Minister

Puducherry, Mar 11 (UNI) Congress workers belonging to the Bahour Zone would hold a demonstration in front of Parliament on March 15 to press for the induction of Bahour Dalit MLA M Kandasamy into the Rangasamy cabinet. Party sources said the Cabinet did not have a Dalit Minister after the resignation of Mr P Angalan in the backdrop of a case registered against him on the charges of assaulting his wife. Dadua's brother may contest UP Assembly polls

Fatehpur, Feb 28 (UNI) Dreaded dacoit Shiv Kumar alias Dadua's brother is planning to enter the electoral fray in the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Dadua is carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head and has several criminal cases pending against him in UP as well as Madhya Pradesh. CEC warns against lapses in UP polls

Lucknow, Feb 28 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami today warned that any irregularities during the seven-phase Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh will be taken seriously and the concerned official punished. ''Election Commission (EC) will work as a watchdog on every incident during the poll process and not tolerate any dishonesty or biased attitude by any official'', he said. Addressing the civil and police officials of 43 districts going to polls in the first four phases here, Mr Gopalaswami said.....
