Temperature falls in capital after sudden rains

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) A brief spell of rain late in the evening gave the people of the capital some respite from the rising temperatures.

Starting around 2015hrs, the rain continued for about two hours.

Met department officials also predicted that the cloudy weather would continue for another 48 hours. There could be intermittent spells of rains accompanied by either thunderstorms or hailstorms in this period, they added.

The sudden rains made the weather chilly, forcing people to again take out their woollens.

Fire in Sadar Bazaar shanties

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Fire broke out in a shanty cluster near Sadar Bazaar in Old Delhi late tonight. The blaze in the hutments on Qutub Road near Old Delhi Railway station started at about 1200 hrs, fire brigade said. As many as 25 tenders had been sent to extinguish the fire. 23 militancy affected families paid compensation in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Government has sanctioned ex-gratia relief to 23 militancy affected families in the frontier district of Kupwara, an official spokesman said today. The District Level Screening Committee (DLSC) took a number of cases of militancy affected families in the Kupwara district. CRPF to replace BSF in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel will soon replace the Border Security Force (BSF) in North and South Kashmir. A month-long pre-induction training of ten battalions of the CRPF, replacing the BSF, has almost been completed and the troops are now ready to take up the job, a CRPF spokesman told UNI.
