Stray peacock spotted in Kidderpore dock

Kidderpore, Mar 11 (UNI) A stray peacock has been spotted in Kidderpore's Dock-3, animal control officials said.

The peacock was hiding in a tree and attempting to escape the animal control officers.

Dock officials first noticed it on the roof of one of the buildings, beside the passenger platform from which ship leave for Andaman, an animal officer Nilendu Paul said yesterday.

Despite efforts by animal control officers to capture the animal, the peacock, however, managed to escape.

It is not known as yet, how the bird reached here or from where it had come.

Centre to set up institute to study seismic activity in NE

Aizwal, Mar 11 (UNI) The Ministry of Earth Sciences will set up a research institute to study seismic activities in the Northeast and has already sent a proposal to the Finance Ministry for necessary sanction. SAD-BJP combine ahead in 31, Congress leading in 16 seats

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)-BJP combine forged ahead in 31 seats while the ruling Congress was leading in 16 constituencies, according to trends available for 48 seats in the Punjab assembly polls. Prominent among those ahead were Chief Minister Amarinder Singh (Patiala) SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal(Lambi), Former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur (SAD) lost the Bholath seat. Leaders trailing were Tourism Minister Jagmohan Singh Kang (Morinda) and Local Bodies minister Chaudahary Jagjit Singh from Kartarpur.....

SRSU appeals for peace to NSCN faction

Kohima, Mar 11(UNI) The Satakha Range Students' Union(SRSU) has appealed to the leaders of the NSCN factions to restrain their cadres from fighting in civilian inhabited areas. In a release here today, SRSU Secretary K Jimo said inter- factional clashes have caused miseries, loss of livestock and properties. Lives of the civilians were also threatened and they were living in perpetual fear and trauma.
