Six including Al-Umma activists, arrested for woman's murder

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 11 (UNI) Police today arrested six persons, including three actvists of the banned Al-Umma, in connection with the murder of a woman at Melapalayam near here on Friday last.

Police said the arrested intercepted the 35-year-old woman, who was allegedly having illict reactions with many others, attacked with her knife and killed her on the spot and fled away from the scene.

They were identified as K Shakulhameed 27), S Rashoolmaideen (22), Navshathali (19), Imrankhan (19), M Mohamed Hussain (23) and S Mohammed Maideen (20).

They were remanded to judicial custody, police added.

Hoax call in school examination hall

Surat, Mar 12 (UNI) A school here received a call that a bomb had been planted in the premises today, but the SSC examination was unaffected after it turned out to be a hoax call. Six persons jailed for murdering municipality chairman

Barasat, Mar 12 (UNI) Sudhir Bhattacharya, the political guru of many CPI(M) stalwarts in West Bengal, with five other accused were sent to jail by additional District and Sessions court in a murder case here today. Former municipalty chairman and politician Mr Bhattacharya and five of his associates had shot dead Dum Dum municipality chairman Sailen Sas on August 13, 2001. Six jailed for murdering Dum Dum municipality chairman

Barasat, Mar 12 (UNI) Former Dum Dum municipalty chairman Sudhir Bhattacharya and five others were today sent to jail by a local court here in a murder case. The prosecution said Mr Bhattacharya and five of his associates had shot dead Dum Dum municipality chairman Sailen Das on August 13, 2001. Additional district and sessions Judge Sunil Chandra Barai, while announcing the verdict, held prime accused Bhattacharya and his associates guilty under sections 120B, 302, 120, 34 IPC.
