Punjab govt to give financial relief to farmers families

Chandigarh, Mar 11 (UNI) The Punjab government has decided to give financial compensation and a government job to the next of kin of farmers, who take the extreme step of committing suicide after falling into the debt trap.

The financial compensation will be in the form of an immediate relief to the effected next-of-kin of the farmer, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced here today.

Talking to mediapersons, he said a permanent government job would also be given to the next-of-kin of the deceased farmer, as per the qualification of the applicant.

Mr Badal pointed out that such a relief had already been given to a family in Bathinda district, after he assumed the reins of power in the state.

Tirupati, Mar 3 (UNI) The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust Board chairman B Karunakara Reddy today handed over 205 gold-coated sheets, weighing 105 kgs, to Srisailam Devasthanam Chairman Pesala Srinivasulu Chetty here. With this, a total of 380 gold-coated sheets, valued about Rs 9.96 crore, were handed over to Srisailam Temple for the renovation of its gopuram.
