Pulse polio drive begins in Bihar

Patna, Mar 11 (UNI) Five days pulse polio drive, the third in this year, began her today with 85941 vaccinators reaching out to more than two crore children to administer them the dose of pulse polio drops across the state.

Official sources said that polio eradication programme was launched with new vigour as 61 cases of polio were detected in 25 districts of Bihar in 2006. Keeping the virus trends in mind, 27 districts were identified as 'high risk zone' and social mobilisers had been placed in these districts for helping in polio eradication drive.

Sources said that services of around 44,591 anganwadi sevikas of ICDS department had been requisitioned to reinforce the Pulse Polio drive. With the sustained effort of the government assisted by various voluntary and non government agencies, the percentage of the children below one year affected by polio dropped from 27 in 2005 to 28 in 2006.

Drop satellite towns, port develpt projects: Narayanaswamy

Puducherry, Mar 12 (UNI) AICC general secretary V Narayansamy, MP, today urged the territorial administration to drop the proposal to set up satellite towns here and shift the Port development project to a rural area. In a statement here, he said he had visited the proposed areas to set up satallite town and found that the places were owned by small farmers. Acquiring the fertile land would badly hit the farmers and farm labourers and therefore the government should drop.....

Back Rx spine care centre opens in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 12 (UNI) Back Rx, a centre with a progressive and innovative approach to spine care based on global practices and focusing on ergonomics was launched here. The company plans to invest Rs 150 crore for setting up 100 back Rx spine care centres in India by 2010, a statement issued here said. Southern Circuit to lure foreign tourists

Mysore, Mar 12 (UNI) With a goal to enhance the tourist appeal and to improve the international tourist arrival trend in the country, Karnataka has launched the Southern Circuit of tourist destinations, covering a variety of tourist hotspots in and around this heritage city. Tourism department sources told UNI here that of the 3.7 million international tourist inflow into the country in 2005-2006, Karnataka accounted for 5.4 lakh, about 14 per cent of the country's figure.
