Police officer arrested on rape charge

Kishanganj, Mar 11 (UNI) In a startling development, controversial and suspended Officer-in-charge (OC) of Dighalbank police station Faiyaz Alam was arrested on the charges of alleged rape and bribery after he was badly mauled and thrashed by an irate mob.

According to police sources, the OC, who was found closeted with a 23-year old divorcee in a house at Faldawal village under Dighalbank police station, was accosted by irate villagers. He was allegedly man-handled and severely beaten up by the mob for allegedly raping the divorcee. The suspended OC was later handed over to his compatriots late last night.

Faiyaz, who was suspended for alleged misdemeanour and high-handedness only a couple of days back by the Superintendent of Police (SP), was arrested and brought to local MGM Medical College and Hospital for treatment as he was badly bruised.

An FIR was lodged against him at the police station in this regard and also in connection with various charges under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Australian trade minister Warren Truss to visit India tomorrow

29,000 people missing in Delhi since '04

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) As many as 29,000 people, including 13,000 minors, have gone missing from Delhi during the past three years. According to officials, of these more than 5,600 people disappeared in 2006 alone and the figure includes 1,300 minors. Of the 28,966 people who disappeared between 2004-06, 11,654 were females and 12,852 were minors, according to the sources. In all 5,610 people went missing last year of which 1,322 were minors.
