People reposed faith in development: Chouhan

Bhopal, Mar 11 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said people had reposed faith in the state government's development-oriented policies by making it victorious from Gwalior Lok Sabha and Udaypura Vidhan Sabha constituencies.

Thanking the electorate from Gwalior and Sidhi Lok Sabha and Udaypura assembly constituencies for supporting the BJP, Mr Chouhan, while addressing a celebration party organised at state BJP headquarters here to celebrate its victory, said the BJP had accepted the verdict of people and its team of workers was ready for the final (read assembly elections).

He said the Congress had put all its strength in Sidhi seat but could win only with a wafer-thin margin.

State BJP General Secretary Makhan Singh, Vice-President Anil Dave, Vidisha MP Rampal Singh and victorious Udaypura BJP candidate Shashi Prabha Singh were present. Party workers celebrated the moment by exploding crackers.

Sidhu gets re-elected from Amritsar LS seat

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu (BJP) was today re-elected from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat which he resigned in December last after being convicted in an 18-year-old road rage death case. Sidhu defeated Punjab Finance Minister Surinder Singla (Congress) by a margin of 77,626 votes in the bye-election which witnessed a bitter campaign. Two-day workshop on IPR in Goa from tomorrow

Panaji, Mar 11 (UNI) National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) director S R Shetye will inaugurate a two-day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights here tomorrow. The workshop is being jointly organised by the NIO and the Goa University and sponsored by the European Union-India and Trade and Investment Development Programme. PM, Sonia made no impact in Punjab polls

Chandigarh, Feb 27 (UNI) Some heaveyweight campaigning by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi notwithstanding, the Congress failed to fare well in Punjab assembly elections, particularly in the Majha and Doaba regions where they separately addressed four rallies.
