Nepal committed to US citizen's security: Koirala

Kathmandu, March 11 (UNI) Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today said his government was committed to the security of American citizens residing in the country.

''The US citizens in Nepal will be given additional security if they ask for it,'' Kantipur quoted Mr Koirala as saying in his hometown Biratnagar.

The remarks came following the warning from the US to its citizens to stay alert, after Maoists chairman Prachanda's remarks that a ''plot to kill US officials by the royal palace'' was under way.

The US embassy here issued a statement last week urging the Maoists supremo to share such an information with Nepal Police or with US embassy officials.

Over 200 ETA-Ascon workers deported for agitation in Dubai

Dubai, March 12 (UNI) More than 200 workers of the Indian-owned construction giant ETA-Ascon here will be deported to receive a lifetime ban for destroying company buses and hurting their manager at the labour accommodation, a Ministry of Labour official said. The official said the workers had crossed the line by indulging in violence and offered 250 work permits to the company free of charge to replace the deported workers. Iraq conference, useful step towards settlement ; Russia

Moscow, Mar 12 (UNI) Russia today said an international conference on Iraq, held in Baghdad on March 10, was a useful step towards a comprehensive settlement in the country. ''Moscow considers the Baghdad meeting as a useful step on the way to developing interaction between all international community members interested in stabilising the situation in Iraq,'' official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Kamynin said in a statement. ''Russia has always spoken for the necessity to closely coordinate international efforts.....
