More rain and snow in HP

Shimla, Mar 11 (UNI) Temperatures continue to drop in Himachal Pradesh after receiving more snow and rain in the state during the last 24 hour, met office said today.

The tribal districts of Kullu, Chamba, Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti received mild snowfall, while light rains lashed the lower areas of these districts, reviving coldwave conditions in the entire state, it said.

The met office said mild snowfall was reported at several high altitude areas of the tribal districts with Rohtang Pass, situated at over 13,050 feet, recording about 10 cm of fresh snow.

More snow clouds were hovering over the tribal districts and the met office said there was every possibility of snow in the higher reaches and rain in the lower areas anytime now.

The lower and mid hills, including Shimla and other adjoining areas, were under a thick cover of clouds since afternoon, forcing people to sport their woolens during the day.

Temperatures in the mid and lower hills of the state had risen appreciably during the last few days after continuous spell of dry weather during the first week of the month.

The night temperatures at Sundernagar in Mandi, Bhuntar in Kullu district and Kalpa in Kinnuar district dropped to 4.4, 7.8 and minus four degree Celsius as against yesterday's low of 9.5, 9.7 and minus 2.2 degrees respectively, the met office said.

The minimum temperature recorded in the state capital, however, increased by a few notches to stand at 4.4 degrees as against four degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The met office said Bhuntar recorded 13.2 mm of rain, followed by 7.2 mm at Kalpa in Kinnuar, 3.5 at Sundernagar and 2.9 mm at Shimla during the last 24 hours up till 0830 hrs.

Insat 4B launch deferred till tomorrow

Bangalore, Mar 11 (UNI) The launch of India's latest communication satellite Insat 4B was deferred by a day this morning following an anomaly noticed in the launchpad seven minutes before the scheduled blast off. The satellite was to be launched by Ariane Five vehicle of Arianespace from Kourou, French Guyana between 0355 hrs and 0428 hrs today. Nepal still a Hindu nation: RSS

Lucknow, Mar 11 (UNI) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today maintained that the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal was still a hindu state despite the recent amendment in its constitution. RSS Sarkaryavaha Mohanrao Bhagwat said here that though the term 'Hindu' has been removed from the constitution of Nepal, India's neighbour still continued to be a Hindu state in all practical senses.
