Major General Nayanar visits Garo hills to meet war veterans

Shillong, Mar 11 (UNI) Major General Vinod Nayanar, GOC 101 Area and Colonel S N Rai, Commandant, Assam Regimental Centre had visited the Garo Hills to meet the war veterans here.

During his visit on Mar 8, Major General Nayanar interacted with a large number of civilian dignitaries and veterans of Tura, organized under the aegis of Assam Regimental Centre.

A total of 70 veterans from all over Tura attended the meeting.

Major General Nayanar explained in detail a number of benefit schemes such as EDHS and exhorted them to draw the full benefit of the same.

He interacted with every veteran and family members, and assured them full support.

He also informed them regarding the Sainik Arm Ghar at Shillong and at Tura, the opening of ex-servicemen helpline and a special ex-servicemen rally and medical camp being conducted for the ex-servicemen at different localities.

ACC Feb cement despatches down 7 pc

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Country's second largest cement manufacturer ACC Ltd today said the cement despatches fell seven per cent to 1.42 million tonnes in the month of February, as against 1.53 million tonnes during the same period last year. ''This was due to planned stoppages on account of certain technical modifications carried out at company's three plants,'' a statement said.
